Dr. Maas became a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 1991. Shortly after, he became an Assistant Professor and was named Chief of the Division of Facial Plastic Surgery at UCSF. He remained a full-time faculty member until he left to establish his private practice in 2001.
Today, Dr. Maas continues his work with UCSF as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. Educators at this level have demonstrated excellence in clinical care, teaching and leadership, and have attained regional or national recognition for their contributions to their field.
Dr. Maas is a fellowship director for The Fellowship Program under the auspices of the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Fellowship directors are clinicians, academicians or a combination of both who are recognized authorities in the teaching and practice of facial plastic surgery.
As a fellowship director, Dr. Maas provides specialized postgraduate training in facial plastic surgery for exceptional young physicians. This encompasses practical surgical experience as well as instruction in the principles of aesthetics, practice management, clinical research and more.
Dr. Maas is routinely sought for his expert opinion on facial plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine. He lectures throughout the year at industry conferences in the United States and abroad. In addition to his speaking engagements, he also joins panel discussions, conducts demonstrations and is an organizer of key industry meetings.
Some of the recent conferences he has been involved with include Vegas Cosmetic Surgery, IMCAS, Global Aesthetics, the Multispecialty Aesthetic Conference, SAFPAS and the International Symposium of Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Maas believes education should be accessible to anyone seeking it. To that end, he has created a blog and an extensive video library in which he shares his expertise on a variety of subjects, including facial plastic surgery, nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, body contouring and hair restoration.
